![]() ![]() Big Pharma companies are also notorious for advertising directly to physicians in 2016, they spent about two-thirds of their overall advertising budget on prescription medicines. In 2018 alone, Big Pharma spent more than $3.73 billion on television advertisements. This begs the question, where do they spend their money instead? The answer is usually marketing and advertising. As shown in Figure 2, the majority of Big Pharma companies spend a small fraction of their money on research and development, their main task that is actually beneficial to society. There has been much controversy in the news regarding the amount of money Big Pharma companies spend on advertising, rather than research. Evaluating questionable morals such as a profit-over-people mentality is made easier with an analysis of Big Pharma companies’ spending. ![]() ![]() Since Big Pharma is worth so much money, it is worth considering how the money is spent. ![]()
